Volunteer BSA Lifeguard Certification

Volunteer Lifeguards needed in order to provide aquatic programs at Cabrillo & Trask for Weekend programs and Scout/Cub Day Camps. Also for Cub camps at Cherry Valley on Catalina Island. Volunteer Commitment:

40 hours per year minimum for two years at a GLAAC Camp as a volunteer Lifeguard. Blended Training Format: 10 hrs Home study and Zoom Meetings with 16 hours pool time. ( Re-certs – 8-10 Hours pool time )

COVID Protocols (unless noted):

Class size limed to 10 candidates. Each person to bring two family members as victims, all need to pass Swim Check

Perquisites and Testing Requirements:

Open QR code for 2017 BSA Lifeguard Application Requirements. Must pass perquisites in order to start pool training.

Lifeguard Hip Pack Required:

All Candidates to bring a Lifeguard Hip Pack with Gloves, whistle and CPR Mask. All pool training to be performed with Hip Pack.

Obtain First Aid & BLS for Health Care Providers Certification Separately: 

Certification for First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers must be obtained separately by the candidate ( Not part of this course ) in order to be a BSA Lifeguard.

Additional Classes:

Depending on size of waiting list, Additional classes may be scheduled due to COVID class size restrictions.
