The San Gabriel Valley District honored Mrs. Clara Potes-Fellow and Dr. Anthony R. Fellow with the 2019 Distinguished Citizens Award at a dinner held on Thursday, August 22, 2019, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Monrovia.  More than 225 guests took part in recognizing the many accomplishments of Mrs. Potes-Fellow and Dr. Fellow not just in Scouting but, also in the community and academia.

Mrs. Potes-Fellow is a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award (2014) and has volunteered for the former San Gabriel Valley (SGV) and the Greater Los Angeles Area (GLAAC) Boy Scouts of America Councils. She was elected to the SGV Council’s Board of Directors in 2013, and a year later she was elected to the Board’s Executive Committee.  She served three years as Finance Chair of the former Lucky Baldwin District (LB).  During her tenure the LB District consistently exceeded its annual fundraising goal and was the highest fund development performer among all SGV Districts.

Dr. Fellow was once introduced by a member of the California State Assembly as the “pillar of the San Gabriel Valley.”  His community and professional involvement have certainly touched upon the most important elements of a community—water, education and government.  Dr. Fellow was elected to the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District (District) in 1991 with a wave of environmentalists who changed water politics.  He was instrumental in establishing the District’s first water recycling program which would save the San Gabriel Valley during the nine-year drought, established conservation programs, including the District’s signature reforestation program in the Angeles National forest.  Dr. Fellow sits on the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees and is a professor of communications at Cal State Fullerton.

The Fellows celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary and are residents of the City of Arcadia.

It is because of the many hours, acts of kindness, and countless contributions to Scouting, youth, and the community that Mrs. Potes-Fellow and Dr. Fellow were recognized as the 2019 Greater Los Angeles Area Council, San Gabriel Valley District, Distinguished Citizens Award recipients.
