One of the key factors in building a strong Scouting Unit is quality training. It is through training that Scout Leaders understand their specific responsibilities, learn from experienced Leaders, and gain motivation to continue.
Whether you are new to Scouting or a seasoned Scouter, we are here to meet your training needs. The Greater Los Angeles Area Council offers a continuum of training for all experience levels.
Trained leaders provide a quality, fun-filled program for Scouting units. When leaders understand Scouting, they are more effective in their roles.

Leadership Laurels is an outdoor training weekend where adults in both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts can get the in-person training required to lead our youth in camping or hiking excursions.
Over the course of a weekend, leaders will get their Position Specific training (Webelos Den Leader, Cubmaster, or Scoutmaster) and the related outdoor training (BALOO for Cub Leaders, IOLS for Boy Scout Leaders). Youth may accompany their parents, and a program will be made available to them based on their age and rank.
Participants in this course will be awarded both BALOO and IOLS.
B.A.L.O.O. Basic Adult Leader Outdoor OrientationBALOO is the Cub Scout leader training required for any Cub Scout den or pack outdoor event, including pack camping overnighters and Webelos den overnighters.
BALOO training is comprised of two components—an online component and a practical, hands-on component. Both components must be completed to qualify as a “TRAINED” Cub Scout outdoor leader.
The online component must be completed prior to the practical component. The online training contains introductory and basic information that will be built upon during the practical training.
Welcome to Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills training. The Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) course builds and expands on the concepts and themes introduced in Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training and Varsity Coach Position-Specific Training, and provides Scouters with the confidence to take youth into the outdoors.
